Theatre at Glasgay! 2005

Glasgay! 2005 is now well underway with plenty more theatrical treats in store.  Scotland’s annual celebration of queer culture runs in various venues throughout Glasgow until 20 November 2005.

Glasgay is an eclectic festival that promotes positive representations of artists and people.  It is also a great artistic festival, attracting mainstream and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered audiences.  The hughely popular Glasgay! will this year be larger than in previous years with over 200 activities at 16 venues.  This will certainly help to verify Glasgow's place as fourth top gay destination in the world by USA's Out and About.

Participating in this years Glasgay! are the Citizens' Theatre, Theatre Royal and Tramway

Citizens' Theatre Company bring us the dark and richly funny Whatever Happened To Baby Jane – the chamber musical. Also at the Citizens they stage their first commission, a new multi-media adaptation of Manuel Puig’s Kiss of The Spiderwoman, a mesmerising exploration of masculinity, loyalty, love and sexuality by Glasgow’s infamous Tangerine Productions led by actor/director Grant Smeaton.

The Royal National Theatre appear at the Theatre Royal in Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, an intensely moving funny play of depth as well as dazzle. At Tramway we witness Cardiff’s Earthfall at their most extreme - emotionally and physically; with live music, film and breathtaking choreography in At Swim Two Boys, inspired by Jamie O’Neill’s award-winning novel.

Their Tron programme includes Lyspinka, never more hilarious as the fiery, temperamental star of the footlights in Lypsinka! The Boxed Set.  Tim Fountain brings his hit show Sex Addict to cast his net wider in the search for the perfect partner where the audience decide who he hooks up with.
