Developing Gaelic in Scotland

In November 2003 the Scottish Arts Council launched its Gaelic Arts Policy. The policy was the result of consultation and discussions between artists, representatives of the Gaelic arts sector and the Scottish Arts Council.

All parties agreed that the central policy theme should be the relationship between the language and the arts.

This policy presented a short review of the recent development of Gaelic arts activity and illustrated how this activity aligns with the Scottish Arts Council’s aims.

It also addressed what we mean by Gaelic arts, and gave specific recommendations for future policy actions.
