The 2007 Dialogues qfactor programme takes place at the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh from 16 - 17 February.

Background and context

The Dialogues qfactor festival offers two days of the best in live electronic music, exploring the space between composition, improvisation, electronica and jazz. 

Humcrush (featuring Thomas StrØnen) Dialogues 2006 Festival; Photo: Johara Chambers A range of new music and performers will be presented at the Queen’s Hall.  The venue’s space will be used to create a catwalk stage, with an eight channel sound rig and a parallel stream of performances happening in the bar.

Friday 16 February

  • Mr McFall’s Chamber present a new project for electric string trio.
  • London’s Not Applicable Artists, a ‘collision’ between Freetronica duo Ollie Brown and Sam Britton and free jazz improvisation featuring Tom Arthurs (trumpet), Maurizio Ravalico (percussion) and Lothar Ohlmeier (saxophone), with synchronised projections by Squint and Brittski.
  • Jules Rawlinson (aka Pixelmechanic) curates Furniture Music, a chilled programme to stretch out to in the bar.
  • Saturday 17 February

  • ‘Rhythmic mayhem’ featuring Beatbox with drummer Steve Argüelles and VJ Miyako.
  • Live electronics and tuba legend Oren Marshall gives a recital of his latest electronically extended tuba tunes.
  • Norwegian percussionist Thomas StrØnen appears in Pohlitz, his solo project for percussion and electronics.
  • Icarus, featuring Sam Britton and Ollie Brown on laptops and live algorithms.
  • Han-Earl Park, guitarist Esprit, re-mixer Hannes Raffaseder and Edinburgh-based free improvisers Kresch decorate the bar with sound during changeovers between acts in the main space.

    Dialogues Discuss

    Dialogues Discuss is a day of artist talks and presentations at the University of Edinburgh.  Themes are Software, Hardware and Concert Remixing.

    Concert remixes

    Humcrush (featuring Thomas StrØnen) Dialogues 2006 Festival; Photo: Johara Chambers Dialogues will be remixing some concerts cherry-picked from the Queen’s Hall’s eclectic programme in early February.  The remixes will allow audiences to hear the music they’ve just heard played back again using a specially commissioned concert remixing system.

    Dialogues 2007 is supported by the Scottish Arts Council, University of Edinburgh, Institut Français d’Ecosse, Alliance Français de Glasgow, Austrian Cultural Forum in London, Norwegian Consulate in Edinburgh and Design-ate.
