Previous Events
Dialogues celebrated its sixth birthday this year with a jam-packed night of experimental music for live electronics. This fantastic event featured music and performances by Chris Wheeler and John Kenny, set against the shellac atmospheres of Janek Schaefer.
Dialogues features six artists and took place over six hours at the Bongo Club in Edinburgh. It showcased ground-breaking new music and media.
The programme for the 2005 event featured:
- 'Two Brothers and Me' with 'uncloak the laptop'
- Edinburgh's Electronic Music Society
- DJ Mike Dred
- and the launch of Dialogues first CD 'SKIN', based on music premiered at Dialogues 2004
Previous collaborations range from Norway's all-girl free improvisation quartet, SPUNK to Scotland's Paragon Ensemble. In 2004 Dialogues ran a video bus from Glasgow to Edinburgh featuring a sequence of video art curated by Rob Kennedy. They aim to showcase the best in internationally recognised experimental music alongside emerging talent from Scotland and beyond.
Dialogues 1999
Dialogues began in the summer of 1999 with a festival in collaboration with the Richard Demarco European Art Foundation. It also featured a unique exhibition of Joseph Beuys material. This show combined a massive showcase of new digital film, new works for live elctronics and interactive sound installations.
Dialogues 2000
In 2000, Dialogues presented a series of experimental concerts in the Bedlam Theatre. The festival featured works by Iannis Xenakis, a host of new pieces for electronics and live performers and a sound installation by Natasha Barrett.
Dialogues 2001
2001 brought Dialogues to Edinburgh's Matthew Gallery for a study of the 'Black Box'. Three new interactive installations were created for the festival and the guest musician was Vienna based composer Hannes Raffaseder.
Dialogues 2002
In 2002 Dialogues ran a two-week festival featuring:
- SPUNK from Norway
- Edinburgh's own Mr McFall's Chamber
- Paragon Ensemble
- Tiroler Ensemble for Contemporary Music,
- alongside experimental audio artists, the Church of Sonology, AbLab, LAUT, NED and SNAIL
Dialogues 2004
During the 2004 event Audio Perversion, heavy hitters from Scotland's live electronics music scene teamed up with SiLENCiO's Cabaret guests for a unique night of mangled audio and real-time sound abuse.
