Own Art featured venues

To coincide with the launch of Own Art, a new interest-free loan scheme, this month's feature is dedicated to the Scottish Arts Council core-funded venues that have participated in the pilot: Dundee Contemporary Art, Edinburgh Printmakers, Glasgow Print Studio and Peacock Visual Arts.  A total of nine galleries took part in the pilot, which also include Ingleby Gallery and Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh, the Roger Billcliffe Gallery in Glasgow, the Castle Gallery in Inverness and the Strathearn Gallery in Crieff.

The following four venues are dedicated to promoting exceptional contemporary fine art, as well as providing education opportunities, workshop facilities and studios space.

Dundee Contemporary Arts

Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) is an internationally renowned centre for contemporary arts, as well as being a vibrant and popular social and cultural meeting place. It attracts in excess of 300,000 visitors a year and stimulates the cultural, social and economic regeneration of the city that is its home.

DCA has five floors of galleries, cinemas, artists facilities, education resources, the University of Dundee visual research centre and a hugely popular Cafe Bar.

With an exciting education programme, DCA actively seeks the widest possible audience encouraging participation and engagement with its artistic programme.

Edinburgh Printmakers

Edinburgh Printmakers is an artists' studio and gallery dedicated to contemporary fine-art printmaking. Established in 1967 it was the first open-access studio in Britain and is now a thriving organisation which attracts funding from the Scottish Arts Council.

Located in the centre of Edinburgh, the two-level gallery adjoins one of the most attractive and well-equipped studio spaces in Britain. Studio facilities are provided at reasonable cost for any artist who wishes to work in etching, lithography, screenprinting or relief printing.

Edinburgh Printmakers also carries work by leading established artists as well as innovative new work by contemporary up and coming artists.

Glasgow Print Studio

Glasgow Print Studio has been encouraging and promoting the art of printmaking for the past 32 years.  As one of the largest UK publishers of original prints, it promotes the work of contemporary artists through inviting them to work with the studio printers, exhibitions, education and outreach and sales.

Local workshop members work with visiting artists to ensure a wide range of styles and techniques are practised.  These include etching, screenprinting, stone and plate lithography, relief printing, digital imaging and many other related processes. Members of the public with printmaking experience are welcome to take out annual membership to have access to the workshop facilities

Glasgow Print Studio also offers regular classes and workshops, as well an education programme that offers opportunities for all ages and abilities to get involved in the fine art of printmaking.  GPS also features three exhibition spaces with a varied programme of events.

Peacock Visual Arts

Peacock Visual Arts is the main contemporary visual arts organisation in Aberdeen and the North-east of Scotland and is supported by Aberdeen City Council and the Scottish Arts Council. It's purpose is to bring artists and public together to explore and share ideas and to make and present art in new ways. Through its programme, Peacock Visual Arts aims to increase the understanding and enjoyment of contemporary art and to empower individuals and communities.
