Stills aims to make visible all aspects of art making. Stills’ Residencies programme enables artists to work on site, while their Focus Space programme demonstrates the scope of their production facilities and gives younger artists the opportunity to show alongside established figures. The artistic programme is strengthened and extended through its wide range of education activities and audience development projects, all of which keep artists and their work at the core and communicates their ideas to people in a variety of ways. |
Visitors to Stills are able to participate in activities as diverse as creative workshops, talks, performances and events, and are able to develop their practical skills through their digital and photographic courses for all ages. Stills has a diverse and loyal audience and seeks to offer each visitor a high quality, richly rewarding experience.
This beautiful and enticing exhibition of work sensitively explores the UK’s many diverse cultures and invites you to do the same.
| Henna Nadeem’s delicate photographic collage dominates the gallery space with an arresting panoramic view. Exquisite patterns borrowed from Islamic, Japanese and Moorish sources blend harmoniously with images of spectacular natural landscapes creating a myriad of cultural references. Leena Nammari explores her Palestinian roots through film and photography while Pamela So considers the influence of Chinese culture on Britain’s past and present. |

So’s intricate paper installation spreads its tendrils across the space walls referencing decorative motifs originating in China yet equally at home on a British sideboard. |
On a more playful note, Chris Dooks recreates elements of the humorous and enlightening ‘Polyfaith Tour’ within the gallery – a project which offers the only free official tour of Edinburgh which features a dead Edinburgh physics teacher.
These works are presented alongside, and on an equal footing with, exciting new works created through the Ricochet programme. Over the course of nine months emerging artists and Edinburgh-based groups have worked with the Ricochet artists to develop their creativity and build up skills in photography and digital techniques.
