The first UK solo exhibition Koester uses strategies of montage, archiving and storytelling to illuminate and complicate historical events that form a mythical construction of the recent past. This exhibition pays attention to Koester's exploration of invisible and forgotten histories of transgression. |

Jane and Louise Wilson
Talbot Rice Gallery, 7 August – 26 September 2009
The exhibition is centred around the story of an unmade film and the actress who was to play the lead role; a project that has been resurrected by the artists.
Unfolding the Aryan Papers is a work that was brought to life after the Wilson’s conducted extensive research in the Stanley Kubrick Archives, housed at the University of the Arts, London. |

Alongside this keynote work, the artists interest in the monochrome archive photographs from Ealing Studios Archive that Kubrick collected has inspired a series of sculptures of the yardsticks that feature within them.
Our Magnolia takes as its starting point Paul Nash’s painting Flight of the Magnolia, in which a single magnolia flower appears to blossom in the evening sky. Nash (1889 – 1946) who was an official war artist in both the First and Second World Wars, spoke of the terror of the English sky blossoming with enemy parachutes, but Nash went on to admit that after completing his ‘Aerial Flowers’ series of paintings, in an essay of the same name, that he ‘could never be frightened by the laws of gravity to the same degree again’.
