Young Scot - Young Shots Competition
| Hundreds of Young Scots took up the challenge to capture their everyday life on film. Over the summer, disposable cameras were sent out to young people from all across Scotland through a number of organisations, including Taigh Chearsabhagh. |

They were asked to take snaps of the people, places and things that are important in their lives and share their top tips and experiences with other Young Scots.
An amazing 6,000 pictures arrived at Young Scot from budding photographers all over Scotland. Thomas Reid from Grimsay, North Uist was one of the prizewinners, and his pictures were on display at Taigh Chearsabhagh from Thursday 16 December until the end of January 2005.
 
The pictures and quotes sent to Young Scot were used in the new Young Scot books thus giving a collection of pictures and words showing what it's like to be a young person living in Scotland today.

'I wanted to capture the feeling of what it is like to be a young person living on an island. I think I had an advantage over many of the other entrants as I had fantastic scenery and a lot of wide-open space to work with, something that would have been a lot harder to find in the city. |
Uist is rich with photogenic areas, not far from people’s doorsteps – I didn’t have to travel further than six miles from my home for any of these photos. The fact that many of these places I went to on Uist were deserted helped as you can experiment with a few things without looking too much of an idiot! It was an excellent competition as the idea of everyone using the same type of camera meant a level playing field for all.'
