Dance performances in Scotland boosted
08/05/2002
Dance audiences can look forward to a range of exciting new performances following almost £34,000 in grants from the Scottish Arts Council.
Seven arts venues across Scotland were awarded between £3,000 and £6,500 to allow them to programme a range of performances from UK and international dance companies, giving individual venues some freedom to invite the companies that their audiences would most like to see.
Each supported venue currently has a thriving programme of high quality dance and the additional funds will extend the opportunities that audiences have to see a variety of classical or contemporary work, including non-Western dance and modern styles, such as hip-hop.
Cindy Sughrue, the Scottish Arts Council’s Head of Dance commented:
“The Scottish appetite for dance continues to grow and we have matched that by increasing the opportunities that audiences have to see and enjoy some of the best.
“Audiences in Scotland are interested in a broad range of styles and individual venues will seek out those companies that can deliver exciting performances.”
